Jerry Springer or 60 minutes

My daughter is 22 and was in an abusive relationship. But did not realize it till after she had a child and her husband ( Now Ex) had shot himself and almost died. Why is there more abuse in relationships, today than there was with our grandparents? Or is there more abuse, or is it out in the open now , where it was another skelton in the closet. Or is it just that as a global society, we are less respectful to another human being than before? Or is because woman want equal rights, and men can not handle strong woman? Why is it than in a relationship now, you have rules, and ways to get along, and you have to watch for emotional abuse and physical abuse. Why is this word abuse used so often in relationships, more so than love, honor and respect

Good questions! I wish I had an answer. Having been there, I feel as though I should be able to give an answer, unfortunately, all I can say is abuse is out there. What baffles me is that the abusers now have NO remorse, maybe they never did, maybe it just SEEMS as though no remorse is a new twist. It's sad and it's exactly why I haven't had a date in five years now - and I'm still in no hurry... Let me know if you get it figured out! --Jackie
